Imphal, February 03 2014: LYC Jiribam blanked Waimazing Club, Haflong to set up a semi final date with Imphal East District Football Association at the ongoing 10th Jiri Cup Invitation Football Tournament today.

Though the two teams were somewhat evenly matched in the first half with neither conceding the goal, LYC went on the rampage in the second half to completely dominate the match and annihilate the Haflong Club by 6 goals to nil.

After a barren first half, the flood gates opened in the 56th minute when Jairem Hmar capitalised on a defensive lapse of the Haflong team and slotted the ball home without much difficulty.

After the first goal, Kajaigah Rongmei of LYC took centre stage and pumped in three goals in the 58th, 61st and 88th minute of the game to literally take the match away from Waimazing Club.

In between the three goal blitzkrieg from Rongmei, Jairem Hmar added another goal in the 63rd minute while Bijoy Rongmei also chipped in with one goal in the 73rd minute to complete the rout.

So dominating were the LYC players that Waimazing Club, Haflong never really had a look at the goal of the rival team in the 90 minutes of play.

Gaganpao of LYC was cautioned in the 70th minute while Verte Baite of Waimazing Club was cautioned.

Sanjoy of Waimazing was given the marching order in the 59th minute of the match.

Tomorrow, KIYC, Kshetri Iril Mapal will take on YDO Konjeng Lamdong in the first semi-final, while LYC will meet IEDA in the second semi-final.
