MEELAL's 19th Meitei Mayek competition held across State

With an aim to promote the indigenous Meitei Mayek script, MEELAL (Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup) successfully organised the 19th Meitei Mayek Competition today across various districts of the State.
The competition witnessed participation from around 15,000 students at 35 different centres.
The event was conducted under 10 categories, covering students from Class I to Class X.During a visit to KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok, one of the key centres, MEELAL general secretary L Nongmaingambi and president Kh Ingocha stated that this annual competition, which has been held continuously for several years, previously saw participation from only 5,000 to 10,000 students.
However, this year marked a significant increase, with more than 15,000 students taking part in the competition, reflecting growing public interest and support for the preservation of the Meitei Mayek script.
The MEELAL leaders expressed their gratitude to the people for supporting the initiative and acknowledged the overwhelming response as a step forward in reviving the mother tongue.
While admitting to minor organisational lapses due to the unexpectedly large number of participants in the competition, they assured corrective measures would be taken in future editions.
The result of the competition will be announced on August 18, 2025 .
The first prize winners will receive Rs 5,000 each, second prize winners Rs 4,000 each, and third prize winners Rs 3,000.Additionally 10 students from each category will be awarded Rs 1,000 each as consolation prize.
They stated that as part of its continued promotion of Meitei Mayek, MEELAL recently in April, conducted a training programme in Tripura and an online training class for the Manipuri residents of Kolkata.
In addition, MEELAL's early efforts to promote Meitei Mayek in Assam played a pivotal role in the Assam Government's decision to declare Meitei Mayek as an Associate Language, a landmark achievement for the Manipuri society, they stated.
