Shillong, August 26 2014:
In an early morning raid conducted by the North Garo Hills (NGH) police, two kidnappers of Tenybirth Momin, the son of Sub Inspector, CK Marak, were caught in the village of Chipakram in the District on Tuesday.
On their information, the police then raided the house of the main accused Brinush Sangma alias Bryno at Kaldang near the Assam Meghalaya border who however managed to escape the police after firing a few rounds at them.
The place of arrest is about 100 kms from the town of Tura and the whole operation was led by the police's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) .
The dacoit group was led by a deserter of the ANVC (B) camp, Byrno, who had taken sophisticated guns with him when he had left the group.
He had started his own group and they had been causing a lot of nuisance within the area.
He however evaded the police net.
"When we went to raid the house of Brinush Sangma (Bryno), the main accused, the miscreants opened indiscriminate fire.
The police retaliated but Byrno and another named Digrade managed to escape," added Marak.
