Chandel, July 22 2016 :
Thadou Students Association, Chandel has expressed concern over the news of forced child soldier recruitment allegedly carried out by Kuki National Organisation (KNO) in Moreh area.
It has been learned that three school going children namely Jangminlal Sing sit(16), s/o (L) Hesei Singsit, Mangminsang Singson(13), s/o Henkhogin Singson of M Chahnou village and Ngamba Mate(15), s/o Deikholam Mate were allegedly abducted by cadres of KNO from Moreh and were forcibly recruited to serve in anti-social activities.
Not only it is prohibited by law, but is also against the principle of the agreement and ground-rules of suspension of operation, TSA, Chandel said in a statement.
While the whereabouts of Ngamba and Mangminsang have not yet been confirmed, although they have reportedly been allowed to return home, Jangminlal is believed to be at the camp of Kuki National Liberation Front (KNLF) / KNO.
"We condemn the incident in the strongest term and urge all the civil society organisations particularly human rights groups operating within and outside the State and all right thinking individuals to extend assistance so that the children are given the right to education and freedom from any form of exploitation," TSA, Chandel asserted
The State Government should act swiftly and rescue the children from the clutches of the KNO, it added.
