Imphal, March 12 2015:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded testing and diagnostic centers of Swine Flu and Bird Flu in Imphal at the earliest.
Speaking at a press meet held today at its head office, DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba said that the outbreak of Swine Flu in the State has sparked panic.
Two people have already lost their lives and in this regard the State Health Department should conduct mass awareness campaign on what could be done at the ground level.
Angamba further said that the State authority took four to five days to get the sample tested at the National Institute of Virology, Mumbai of one of the deceased victims when the same can be done just in four to six hours.
He added that such action shows the alleged lethargic attitude of the Govt towards this end.
Against the backdrop of the panicky situation which has turned out to be breeding grounds for illegal pollution mask traders and other ayurvedic medicines, DESAM demanded that the Govt look into the matter and stop such unwarranted activities.
He said, some schools in Imphal have asked their students to come with mask of some kind or they would be disallowed to enter the school premises.
Such immature actions by school authorities should be checked by the authority concerned, he added.
