Awards presented on occasion of LEIKOL's 13th Birth' Day

Imphal, October 03 2014 : Along with celebrating 13th Foundation Day of Leimarol Khorjeikol (LEIKOL), the Thiyam Radhesakhi Award and Kshetrimayum Yaima & Thambal Devi Memorial Sahitya Award 2014 of LEIKOL were presented to Dr Rajen Toyamba and Keisham Priyokumar respectively during a solemn function at JN Manipur Dance Academy here today.

The Thiyam Radhesakhi Award carries a cash prize of Rs 5000, citation along with shawl while the Kshetrimayum Yaima & Thambal Devi Memorial Sahitya Award carries a cash prize of Rs 10000, citation and shawl.

The function was graced by RK Anand, MLA Naoriya Pakhanglakpa; Dr Kh Sorodini, president of LEIKOL and Prof Elangbam Dinamani, president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honor respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Anand noted that there has been history which is due to writers otherwise there will not be history in the world and pointed out that the rate of reading books especially by younger generation is low as compared to other States.

He said that time has come for the government to award grant to those writers who could not publish their books due to financial difficulty instead of presenting awards to writers for their published books.

Maintaining that there are many talented writers in the State who need support and encouragement, the MLA stressed on the need for taking up measures to facilitate them so that their books are published.

To mark the occasion, MLA Anand released ninth edition journal of LEIKOL.
