Many observe Manipuri Language Day

Commemorating the inclusion of the Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule on August 20, 1992, the Manipuri Language Day was observed across the State today.
The Manipur State Council of the Communist Party of India, Writers' Platform Manipur and Jaideep Memorial (JAIM) Foundation and many other organisations observed the day.
The Manipur State Council of the Communist Party of India observed the Manipuri Language Day at Irawat Bhavan, Imphal.
Assistant secretary MSC-CPI M Joykumar Luwang, AITUC Imphal East president I Tomba, All Manipur Nupi Marup president Th Shakhi Devi attended the observance as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, M Joykumar recalled the struggle of the people and the role the MSC-CPI played for inclusion of the Manipuri Language in the 8th Schedule.

When urged by the Manipur State Council CPI, Tripura MP Dasharat Dev first raised the issue in the Parliament in 1952, he recalled.
Following this, CPI MPs continued to push for the recognition of the Manipuri Language, and around 1000 volunteers from Manipur under CPI's mass front, AIYF staged a strike in Delhi, he said.
After years of struggle, the Manipuri Language was included in the 8th Schedule on August 20, 1992.This was the result of the collective movement launched by the people of the State, he added.
In a separate event, the Writers' Platform Manipur and Jaideep Memorial (JAIM) Foundation observed the Manipur Language Day 2024 at the latter's office at Palace Compound.
Mahila Kavya Manch Manipur president Dr Ksh Subadani Devi, Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Keisham Pradipkumar, WRITPLAT Manipur president Yumnam Kumar Singh, JAIM Foundation president Dr Rajkumar Nayansana Devi, retired Professor Dr Hamom Nabachandra, founder and Chief Executive Officer SEVA Manipur Dr Kh Chinglen Singh and Rani Kshirdir attended the event.
The observance also witnessed the release of an anthology poetry book and audio music (patriotic song) .
Manipur University's Assistant Professor Dr Naorem Sanatomba Singh spoke on Manipuri Language and its past, present and future.
Speakers at the event stressed the importance of promoting Manipuri language.
