Discussion on monitoring governance held

Secretary of Senior Citizens for Society (SCS), Prof Sadananda has said that not a single point out of the 19 points mentioned in the election manifesto of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has been executed so far.
Prof Sadananda was speaking at a press conference cum discussion session on monitoring performance of the State Government, organised by Resurgent Manipur at SCS Office located at Nagamapal here today.
Speaking on various issues of the State, the Secretary stated that power supply is so erratic.
He added that power is provided to the people for around 6 hours a day.
Saying that progress of new projects are also too slow, Prof Sadananda said that Prepaid System has brought benefits to consumers of Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar areas alone.
Regarding water supply, he said, the system is in very miserable and undescriptive condition.
Though the State is known for its art and culture, there is need for a proper policy.
He also spoke about the unemployment problem of the State.
Convenor of Resurgent Manipur, Deben Bachaspatimayum said, People Campaign for Assembly Election was launched on October 18, 2011 with an attempt and hope to bring a wave of democracy, by the Manipuris studying and doing research works outside the State and country.
Friday was the second anniversary of the campaign which was organised as an open discussion forum.
During the 15 years of the campaign, people would jointly monitor the governance and administration of the State, he added.
Hitting out at Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Advocate Khaidem Mani observed that it was said in the Election Manifesto 2013 of MPCC that AFSPA would be repealed from the State if the law and order was improved.
Therefore, a monitoring group of the people is required to be formed, in a democratic manner approved by the Election Commission, before the upcoming Assembly Election, he added.
Student organisations, CSOs, meira paibis in Manipur should participate in the group and fight for a free and fair election, Mani added.
