Imphal, July 27 2019: Parents and guardians of students staying at the boarding of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur, came and took away all the belongings of their wards from the boarding today.

The school boarding has a total of 147 female students.

Following the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana inside the boarding on July 18, police kept the hostel under lock and key but today, it was opened in the presence of a large number of police led by OC Singjamei PS to enable the parents and the wards to collect their items from inside the boarding.

Speaking to media persons, AMSU secretary general Ahanthem Bipinchandra said that on July 25, a joint meeting was organised at Ima Khunthok-hanbi Shanglen at Thangmeiband, with the parents of the students staying inside the school boarding and it was resolved that all the items, clothing etc of the students will be removed from the boarding by today.

He continued that police as well as AMSU volunteers are keeping round the clock vigil to prevent anyone from entering the room where the student died as the case is a very sensitive one.

It will be prudent on the part of the State Government to take a positive stand regarding the case and do everything in its power to solve the case at the earliest, he added.

On the other hand, following an inspection trip to the boarding establishments of MECI Explorer Academy and Blossom School today, DESAM and AIMS have demanded the State Government to come up with proper rules and regulation for schools operating boarding facilities in the State (whether Government or private).

Speaking to media persons, DESAM secretary general Oinam Sheetal said that DESAM and AIMS decided to carry out inspection trips to various boardings/hostels in the State owing to the rising cases of unfortunate incidents happening in such establishments.

During the drive, the volunteers came across many students being housed inside small rooms as well as lack of fans and other cooling equipment to combat the summer heat.

However, the volunteers also came across some boardings/hostels which were properly maintained with clean rooms and proper and ample facilities provided to the students, he added.

He further demanded the State Government to lay down proper rules and regulations for boardings opened in the State so as to prevent any unwanted incidents in the future.

DESAM vice president Yumlembam Yaiphaba and AIMS secretary general Huidrom Banerjee, as well 12 other volunteers were also present during the drive.

On the other hand, condemnation continues to pour in from many organisations regarding the death of Ningthoujam Babysana.

The Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL), Coordinating Body Khurai, Awang Nongpok Chingkheienat Yokhat Lup and Singjamei to Lilong United Club's Organisation (SLUCO), have strongly condemned the death of the student inside the school boarding as well as the attitude shown by the State Government towards the incident.
