Bodies visit remote villages

Thoubal, February 23 2014 : President of Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO), Ws Kanral Anal, along with the volunteers of Sulam Area Chiefs' Association (SASA) visited Sulam area to gather first-hand account of the existing infrastructure and understand the problems being faced by the people of the area.

The team visited New Samtal, Chahmol, Angbrashu, Larong Khunou, Larong Khullen, Darchol, Vomku, Challong, Thumtam, Paraolon and Kotal Khuntak villages and interacted with the villagers.

At Angbrasu, the team met the officials of BRO and requested them to maintain quality in road construction.

The villagers disclosed that they have to walk for 2 km to fetch water from a small stream.

Chief of Larong Khullen village, Ts Kanlun said that existence of PHSC building, the concerned authority had not inaugurated till date.

The PHSC has been left with no doctor but a single nurse is there to attend the villagers.

The Chief also stated that the SMDC wanted to start functioning of the school from the current academic session but the concerned authority had failed to release the amount of the already submitted bill leading to closure of the building by the contractor.

In this regard, he appealed to the department to take necessary action.

He also narrated the shocking experience of the non functioning of a BSNL tower erected at his village as well as the boys hostel constructed at his village under MSDP which was left incomplete.

The villagers in Challong informed that due to sinking of the road, the villagers had no option but to shift to a safer place for which they requested the team to extend help in getting assistance from the Government.

Chief of Paraolon Sk Warshing told the team that his village has no school building and PHSC building is yet to be inaugurated.

The team found Khungyon facing acute drinking water problem.

BSNL tower at the village has not been erected again after it collapsed some time back.

Ws Kanral said that 10 villages are facing acute drinking water problem for which he felt that Government must formulate a project or technology on rain water harvesting system for those villages so as to reduce the problems.

He said that all villages visited today lack basic infrastructure in the form of health, education and road connectivity.

Saying that the area which has 20 villages are very remote and backward, the President urged the Govt to revive Vomku Block.
