Kwakta locals call for action against culprits involved in assault case, end to excessive monetary demands

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations Kwakta organised a one-day public protest meeting at Kwakta Bazar demanding arrest of the culprits involved in the violent assault of Md Abdul Gaffar from Kwakta on August 12 .
The protest meeting also, demanded an end to the rising incidents of extortion from the public carried out by armed miscreants.
Md Abdul Gaffar is engaged as a Runner at Churachandpur Police Station under the Station Home Department.
He was kidnapped and brutally assaulted by unidentified armed persons on his way to Imphal from Churachandpur on a winger near the Imphal International Airport.
Speaking in this connection, a protestor by the name of Mayangmayum Abdul Nasir urged the State Home Department to book the perpetrators responsible for the attack as soon as possible and award them befitting punishment.
He added that the public protest meeting was also held to oppose increasing extortion demands made by groups or individuals from the general public, who have been reeling under the economic crisis brought on by a 15-month long crisis.
He also called for strengthening of the State's law enforcement agency reasoning that they are necessary to ensure safety of the people and peace in the land.
Meanwhile, MV Islaouddin Quasmi, Sardar, Jamiat Ulema Bishnupur maintained despite the BJP being in power both at the Centre and the State, certain elements are acting on their whims as though there is no Government to maintain law and order.
The gathering resolved to ensure that their demands reach Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Aside from demanding befitting punishment for the culprits involved in the physical assault of Md Abdul Gaffar, the gathering are also urging the Home Department to bear the cost of his medical treatment and put an end to the rising cases of unbearable monetary demands, which in the case of Kwakta includes abduction of individuals from different locations.
Today's public protest meeting was attended by people from Kwakta Municipal Council and Kwakta Gram Panchayat as well as CSO leaders from Kwakta area.
