Former MP urges CM to reach out

Imphal, September 13 2015: Taking serious note of the restive situation besieging Churachandpur district after the three Bills aimed at protection of indigenous people were passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly, former MP Kim Gangte has urged the Chief Minister to reach out to the aggrieved people.

People can live in peace only when there is good governance but what is seen today at Churachandpur is anarchy and total absence of governance, Kim Gangte told media persons today.

The Government should take the initiative of addressing whatever misunderstandings that sparked off the turmoil and restore normalcy in Churachandpur town.

The Chief Minister must personally visit the aggrieved people, allay their apprehensions and pacify people's fury.

Denouncing that all the six MLAs elected from Churachandpur district have not bothered to meet and interact with the aggrieved people directly till date, the ex-MP decried that Chief Minister O Ibobi too has not bothered to give any instruction to the MLAs to reach out to the people.

Th situation is quite critical.

Unfounded allegations like Kukis are foreigners and the violent uproar was instigated by armed groups under SoO pact would only add fuel to the fire, Kim Gangte cautioned.

Flatly rejecting the allegation that Kukis are foreigners, the ex-MP asked where is this place called Kiyampok Lamjao.

She asserted that Kiyampok Lamjao is nothing but Kabow Valley.

Kabow Valley is known as Kiyampok Lamjao as king Kiyamba was born there.

Kukis who were settled in Kabow Valley came to Manipur after the Government of India gifted away Kabow Valley to Burma.

Kukis who came to Manipur from Kiyampok Lamjao are not foreigners, she asserted.

Taking strong exception to adoption of 1951 as cut off base year, Kim Gangte said that this would create very complex problems.

Churachandpur was virtually burning on the very day the three Bills were passed.

In the aftermath, the Chief Minister's Secretariat came out with a lengthy clarification.

It would have been much better if the Chief Minister invested some of his time and energy in mollifying the enraged people, she said.

The Governor should send a report on the prevailing situation to the Government of India, she added.
