Imphal, November 05 2015: A large number of people thronged at the Irilbung Police Station on Thursday demanding to produce the alleged killers of Md Hasmad Ali alias Babu of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai under Irilbung Police Station, who was allegedly lynched on Monday morning on theft charge.

A large number of protesters from Keirao Makting Awang Leikai came out on the streets since morning and blocked the Imphal-Yairipok road at Irilbung Bridge.

All vehicular movements were restricted and even school students were blocked from passing through the road.

The protesters stromed into the Police Station and vandalized a sentry post, one sign board which reads as Irilbung Police Station and many solar street lamps.

The police personnel tried to disperse the angry crowd and fired tear gas shells but the mob pelted stones to the personnel and attacked them, said sources.

Around five persons were injured during the police action.

Additional forces from Imphal East Police Station rushed to the spot after the public tried to seize the police station.

Later, Irilbung Police Station OC talked with the JAC against the brutal killing of Md Hasmad Ali.

The tension was diffused after the OC assured to arrest those involved in the killing at earliest.

However, the large number of public sat at the gate of the police station and continued their protest.

After a team of the police station returned without arresting any persons involved in the alleged killing, the protesters again attacked the police station by throwing stones.

Police personnel again fired number of tear gas shells and bullets to control the situation.

After one police commando was injured during the mob attack, the tension somehow decreased.

Convener of the JAC Md Rajauddin said that JAC will continue its agitation till the persons involved in the killing are produced and further warned to call a Manipur bandh in the next few days along with civil society organisations of the State if the Government fails to fulfill their demands.
