Patriots' Day observed with fervour all across State, martyrs remembered

Imphal, August 13 2020: Different organizations, groups, parties, associations and bodies celebrated Patriots' Day with much fervour, all across the State.

Patriots' Day is observed every year on August 13 to commemorate and honour the martyrs who laid down their lives in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 .

JSCC, DESAM
The Joint Students' Co-ordination Committee (JSCC), a joint apex student body constituted by AMSU, MSF, KSA and SUK, observed Patriots' Day by paying floral tribute to the fallen heroes and also observed 2 minutes silence for the departed souls.

Convenor of JSCC Dhanakumar Ningthouja led the function.

DESAM also observed the day at its office by paying floral tribute to the martyrs while maintaining COVID SOPs and guidelines.

ANUL
The Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL), Bishnupur District commemorated the day at its office by paying floral tribute to the martyrs.

The function was held following all COVID SOPs and guidelines laid down by the State.

ANUL president L Pramo, UCM president Sunil Karam along with members of Bishnupur District Committee UPF, AMSU and others attended the function.

One minute silence was observed by the gathering as a mark of respect.

Bishnupur
The District Administration of Bishnupur observed the 129th Patriots' Day today at Conference Hall, Mini-secretariat campus, Bishnupur.

L Radhakeshore, MLA of Oinam AC, Neeta Arambam, DC Bishnupur Priyadhashini Laishram, SP and district level officers attended the solemn function and paid floral tribute to the martyrs.

Chandel
The District Administration Chandel commemorated the Patriots' Day at the District Headquarters today.

Floral tributes were paid by the DC Chandel Krishna Kumar, SP Chandel N Modhunimai and other officials of the district.

CPI
The Manipur State Council/Communist Party of India organised Patriots Day at various places in the State and paid floral tributes to the martyrs.

At Sanjenbam Santipur, the programme was led by its State secretary L Sotinkumar while in Kangmong Maisnam Leikai it was led by its assistant secretary M Joykumar.

Jiribam
Pari Puri Athouba Ningsing Lup, (PPANL) Jiribam too observed 129th Patriots Day at Ningsingkhul, Jiribam.

During the programme, CSOs' leaders and womenfolk paid floral tributes to our forefathers who laid down their lives for the sake of Manipur.

Patriots song was also played in different localities of the district.

Similar programme was also observed at Cachar and Silchar.

Kakching
The 129th Patriots' Day was also commemorated at the Angang Ching Eco Park Kakching today.

Apart from paying floral tribute, many of the guests also presented poetry recitals and later planted saplings in memory of the martyrs.

Moreh
In Moreh, the Meetei Council Moreh, All Community Development Organisation Moreh, AMSU Tengnoupal District Committee, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup and Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup jointly observed the Patriots' Day at Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraobung, Moreh.

The guests paid floral tribute to photographs of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General.

MLKT&CS
Maintaining social distance and following strict protocol of COVID-19, the Mangang, Luwang, Khuman, Thang-Ta and Cultural Sindamsang organized Patriots' Day at Brahmapur Mangjil Mamang and paid floral tribute to the martyrs of Anglo-Manipur War.

MUTA, MUSA
The Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) and the Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA) jointly organized the Patriots' Day celebration today in the Conference Hall of MUTA, MU in the presence of presidium members Prof M Ranjit Singh, president MUTA; Prof S Imoba Singh, vice-president MUTA and S Brojendro Singh, general secy MUSA.

During the speeches delivered, Prof S Imoba Singh, Prof Sh Dorendrajit Singh and L Jilla Singh spoke on the services rendered by the Athoubas of Manipur towards strengthening the patriotic spirits of the people of the land, while the other speakers recalled the sacrificing spirits of the heroes and also narrated relevant historical notes on observing Patriots' Day.

Dr L Santosh proposed the vote of thanks.

PAWF
Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur in association with PAWF Assam, Guwahati and Tripura, jointly observed the Patriots' Day celebration through online medium.

The programme was led by PAWF Manipur president Yaiskul Khwairakpam along with PAWF Assam president Thounaojam Shyam.

Many poets from Manipur and Assam recited original poetries on the martyrs of 1891 during the event.

RIMS
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal observed Patriots' Day at the New Examination Hall, RIMS.

RIMS Director Prof A Santa Singh led in paying floral tribute to the martyrs who fought against the British during the Anglo-Manipur War.

As part of the programme, patriotic song was presented by Dr Ak Ibohal Singh and Janeshwori Devi, followed by a poetry recital by Dr AK Ibohal Singh.

Prof A Santa encouraged the present generation to show patriotic courage and spirit of sacrifice to make a better Manipur.

Medical Superintendent of RIMS Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh also spoke on the occasion.

The function was attended by Heads of Departments, faculty members from Medical, Dental and College of Nursing, Nursing Superintendent RIMS, nursing officials and staff.

RSS
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Imphal also observed the day.

The observance was live telecast on facebook.

At the programme, HOD, History, Manipur University, Prof N Lokendra spoke in detail about Anglo Manipuri War 1981 .

Senapati
The Thangal Naga tribe also observed Patriots Day at General Thangal Ecological park, Mayangkhang.

The program was organized in low profile due to the global pandemic with strict adherence to COVID safety guidelines.

Executives of the Thangal Union.Thangal Students Union, Thangal Women's Union and the Thangal Naga Baptist Association attended the programme.

Participants laid wreaths in honour of the foregone leaders in front of the statue of General Thangal, erected at the park before the commencement of the programme.

Seva Bharati, Manipur
The Seva Bharati, Manipur observed Patriots Day at its office at Nagamapal, today.

Paying floral tributes to faller heroes of Anglo Manipuri War 1891 and spreading awareness on COVID-19 were the highlights of the observance.

On the occasion, Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan also distributed face masks, hand sanitisers and supplements to boost the immune system to the gatherings.

Many health experts also attended the programme.

On the other hand, All Manipur Students' Union and Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK) observed 129th Patriots' Day at the conference of AMSU HQs.

Floral tributes were paid to the photos of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General.

The attendees also observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the freedom fighters.

Thoubal
In Thoubal district, the Office of the District Information Officer, Thoubal, observed the 129th Patriots' Day today at the Conference Hall of DC, Thoubal.

Under the strict norms of COVID-19 SOPs, the Deputy Commissioner N Bandana Devi and other officials paid floral tribute to the sons of Manipur who made supreme and selfless sacrifice for the cause of the Motherland against the mighty British.

Dhanbillash Manipuri Naharol Lup along with Manipuri residents of Dhanbillash village, Agartala, the newly formed joint organization of three villages of Agartala Thougan Lup Manipuri Socio Cultural Organization, Khundrakpam Kendra Youths Organization (KHUKYO), the Kakching Khunai Chaokhat Hanba Lup (KKCL), Assam Pradesh Manipuri Association (APMA) Hojai, Pioneer Education and Sporting Union (PESU), All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA), Pukhramba Kajao Memorial Trust and Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) along with Nongchup Imphal Meira Paibi Apunba Nupi and Extra Judicial Execution Victims Families Association Manipur (EEVFAM) also observed the day.
