Bishnupur, November 27 2024:
New Life Foundation Manipur kicked off the nation-wide Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat (Child Marriage Free Bharat) campaign in various regions of Bishnupur district today.
Notably, Annapurna Devi, Union Minister of Women and Child Development virtually launched the national campaign against child marriage across the country today.
As a part of the national campaign, New Life Foundation Manipur partnered with Access to Justice, New Delhi to conduct a program at L Mani Memorial Training Hall under Moirang Assembly Constituency.
The event was graced by Salam Bijita, chairman, Administrative Committee, Tronglaobi Terakhongshangbi GP; Sanasam Rebika, PRO, New Life Foundation Manipur and Khorong Philemon Chiru, Coordinator, Access to Justice For Children as the presidium members.
Additionally, a similar campaign was held at Bishnupur DC Complex.
Speaking in connection with the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign, Sanasam Rebika said that many stakeholders including the District Administration Bishnupur and Social Welfare Department took part in the virtual inauguration of the campaign.
She added that the campaign was also held in remote villages in Bishnupur and relief camps in Moirang as cases of child marriage are reportedly increasing due to the ongoing conflict.
This stems from ignorance of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 in far-flung villages and even among relief camp inmates, she added.
In the evening, people lit candles at Karang village, Moirang College Relief Camp A Block and Sindam Sanglen Relief Camp in Bishnupur district advocating against child marriage.
The campaign will be held in different parts of the State.
