Lions Club of Imphal observes 'Lions UN Day 2022'

In connection with the 'United Nations Day 2022' observation, Lions Club of Imphal organised a debating competition of Higher Secondary school and college students today at Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou.
A press release by the secretary of Lions Club of Imphal informed that 31 students from seven schools participated in the debating competition held on the topic "Reformation of UNO is a must in a Dynamic World of 21st Century" .
Sainik School won the winners and runners-up trophy of the competition with Akoijam Athouba of the school winning the first prize while Alex Laishram and Kh Minerva of the school won the second prize.
A cash award of Rs 7000 and Rs 4000 were presented to the 1st prize and 2nd prize winners respectively.

H Rajendra Singh, former principal of GP Women's College attended as the speaker of the competition while Professor Abdul Hakim Shah, HOD, Political Science, GP Women's College; Dr K Indrakumar, Assistant Professor of Political Science, GP Women's College and Lion L Bihari, member Lions Club of Imphal were the judges of the competition.
Presenting the keynote address on observing the UN Day, Lion H Manikumar, Past District Governor, Lions District 322D stated that Lions Club played a major role in the formation of the United Nations after World War II in 1945 .
After the formation of the United Nations, the Lions Club has been extending best possible support to its subsidiaries like UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO etc, he added.
He went on to state that acknowledging the contributions of the Lions Club, the UN has designated a day as 'Lions Day with the United Nations (LDUN)' during February or March every year.
Considering the immense contributions of the United Nations, the Lions Clubs across the globe have been observing Lions UN Day on October 24 annually, he continued.
District Governor of Lions Dist 322D, Lion Dr W Gopimohan also attended today's programme.
