Cultural tour of Khongjom Parva concludes

Imphal, December 15 2024: The valedictory function of the "2nd Cultural Tour of Khongjom Parva in 16 Districts of Manipur" was held today at the auditorium of Balmukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound.

The cultural tour was organised by Kanglei Sheishaklon Shindamshang (KSS) under the aegis of Cultural Function and Production Grant (CFPG) Scheme of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The valedictory function was attended by Budha Chingtham, Member, Board of Governors, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India; Khumanthem Sundari Devi, Manipur State Kala Akademi Awardee and founder of KSS; and Dr Nganbi Chanu, Head, Umanglai Haraoba Department, Manipur University of Culture as presidium members.

Delivering the keynote address, KSS secretary Khumanthem Budhachandra said that due to the prevailing situation of Manipur, the cultural tour was carried out in only 5 districts namely Thoubal, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching and Imphal East.

"In 2022, the cultural tour of Khongjom Parva was successfully carried out in 10 districts to preserve & promote Khongjom Parva, a traditional performing art form of Manipur", he recalled.

Budha Chingtham said, "Manipur has a rich repository of traditions and arts.

The State is best introduced to the world through its rich performing arts & culture".

He also called for collective effort to promote the indigenous art form which is of great historical and traditional importance.

Performance of Khongjom Parva and felicitation of artists were the main highlights of the event.
