Imphal, April 11 2016:
Commandant of 49 BSF has strongly refuted the claim by some organisations that the BSF personnel had demolished signboards at Koirengei area on April 8 .
In a statement, the Commandant of 49 BSF said that in the night of April 7 at about 9.45 pm, one constable namely Sagar Chetry went to attend a Thabal Chongba event near Koirengei Welfare YC ground.
At about 12.15 am of April 8, some 7/8 unknown civilians in an inebriated state started abusing Sagar in local dialect while he was speaking with his friend.
When he tried to reason with them, they started assaulting him with fist and iron rods and tried to molest the girl.
After seeing the mob, the secretary and members of Koirengei WYC took CT Sagar Chetry inside the club office and forced him to sign a statement that he was in a compromising position and he was not physically beaten and will not lodge a complaint with the police.
When he refused to sign the statement, he was again physically assaulted and forced to sign, it said.
Meanwhile, QRT party of 49 Bn BSF reached the spot and evacuated the constable from the club to Unit MI Room.
Chetry sustained brushes on his face and body and had to be given two stitches on his upper lip, it said.
An FIR in this regard has been lodged at Heingang PS on April 9 against secretary of Koirengei Welfare YC, Ngangbam Chingkhei, it said.
The allegation that 49 BSF personnel demolished singboards is devoid of truth and done to mislead the public, it clarified.
