Kanggui, May 06 2014:
Government alone cannot be blamed for ills afflicting the society for the people too have the responsibility to contribute towards progression the society in their own way, said Nehginpao Kipgen, a US-based Political Scientist.
Speaking at a reception programme organised in his honour at Haipi village near Kangpokpi yesterday, Nehginpao pointed out that when there is quality education, self respect, transparency and a since and committed Government there would be positive reformation in a society.
The reception programme hosted Kipgen Khangthah Kiloikhom (KKK) was held at Jangthang Memorial Hall, Haipi village, Sadar Hills.
Nehginpao Kipgen, also the general secretary of US-based Kuki International Forum and a renowned scholar, whose research focuses on the politics in South and Southeast Asia, specifically Burma/Myanmar, also highlighted significance of Imagine Community during his introductory speech stating that living together does not signify love, respect, care and concern for the society or a community in particular.
Back in Manipur after 15 years, he said wherever one may reside he/she must have concern, respect and regard for the society or the community one belongs to.
Conveying gratitude to state dailies for publishing his articles, Nehginpao, a Myanmarese by nationality admitted that he gained wide recognition through his write-ups published in the state dailies.
Exhorting the youngsters of the state to strive for excelling in the field of research rather than concentrating on academic rigours and clearing civil services examinations, the political scientist pointed out that most people of the state in particular and Indians in general are focusing only on clearing or passing civil services.
"To be a Political Scientist you must have knowledge and education to analyse things objectively not subjectively", he noted.
Speaking on the political scenario in Manipur, Nehginpao described political issues of Manipur as 'very critical and sensitive' .
But, in democracy politics is sometimes very complicated.
That is why it is said sometime that Political Science is messy, Nehginpao added.
Insurgent groups in Manipur might have their own respective reasons but the people as a whole need to respect the opinion, dignity and culture of one another to ensure that elements inimical to the general interest of the people do not sow seeds of hatred in a multi-ethnic State like Manipur, he maintained.
An author of Foreign Journal Policy, Nehginpao also expressed that for peaceful coexistence majority and minority groups should respect and have concern for one another along with stressing that in Manipur the majority community, the Meeteis should respect the rights of the minority groups like Kukis, Nagas, Nepalese, etc.
similarly the minority groups, can promote harmonious relationships if they have mutual respect and understanding with the majority group as well as understand diversities in the society.
Meanwhile, Rev.Dr Paokhosei Kipgen while exhorting and blessing the Political Scientist said, "Always remember when you do good things your family, society and the nation is always happy.
Follow the ethics of Christianity accordingly to the will of God.
Assume that whatever you do it is a missionary work" .
The reception program was also attended by Seisat Kipgen, EM (Town), ADC Sadar Hills, Thangjamang Kipgen, MDC, CSO representatives, chiefs, Church leaders apart from KKK leaders and students from various educational institution in the area.
Various prominent Kuki Gospel artistes enthralled the gathering while a day long discussion on various topics, issues was another highlight of the reception programme.
