Drug abuser succumbs to bullet injury

A drug abuser who abducted an auto-rickshaw driver for ransom and dramatically made his escape good after being hit by a police bullet has succumbed to the injuries at Shija Hospital.
A team of Lilong Police went to pick up Md Islao Rehman from his Lilong Shambrukhong Mamei residence at about 9 am yesterday.
On seeing the police team, Islao Rehman fled away at which police opened fire.
Though hit by a bullet on the right leg, he managed to run away.
Police later discovered that Islao Rehman was receiving treatment at Shija Hospital.
Subsequently, Islao Rehman was arrested but he succumbed to the injuries at about 4.30 pm yesterday.
It is suspected that he might have died due to successive bleeding.
It was reported that Islao Rehman was involved in the abduction of auto-rickshaw driver Potsangbam Sanajaoba (28) of Lamboikhul but staying at Porompat.
Demanding certain amount as ransom, Islao Rehman kept Sanajaoba hostage for three days before the captive could somehow escape from the hands of his captor.
It is reported that Md Islao was also a drug abuser.
Islao Rehman abducted Sanajaoba on January 22 on the pretext of taking some second-hand goods from Lilong.
He also identified himself as a cadre of the KCP (Tabungba Meitei) while demanding ransom from Sanajaoba's family.
