Imphal, September 01 2010:
Expressing surprise over the appeal made by leaders of Kwatha village to the Government of Manipur and other civil organisations for intervention over alleged land dispute between Kwatha and Leibi villages, Leibi Village Authority has demanded to know what kind of intervention they are asking for.
In a statement, chairman of Leibi Village Authority K Angdon Maring said that even if there is some confusion over the boundary of the two villages, villagers of Leibi have never tried to ignite any tension or pick up fight with villagers of Kwatha over the issue.
On the contrary, it was the Kwatha villagers who burnt down the crops belonging to 120 households of Leibi Khunao.
Despite that the villagers of Leibi controlled their anger and took up the matter for doing justice in a law court, Angon Maring said.
Stating that there is no question of taking over the land of Kwatha village by Leibi villagers, he said that Leibi village has not made any claim over the supposed disputed Khebungching and no one would object to the fact that Khebungching belongs to Kwatha.
Because the derivative words of Khebungching itself is Maring dialect.
Moreover, Khebungching and Huikap Ching are entirely two different entities, the chairman added.
