Roadblock staged

Imphal, April 29 2013: Running out of patience over the alleged delay in construction of a 4 km stretch of road from Irilbung Thongkhong to Langdum Thingel, residents of Keirao Bitra staged a roadblock along Imphal-Yairipok road from early morning today.

Besides, a sit-in protest was also staged at Panthoibi Keithel, Keirao Bitra.

However, MLA of Andro AC, Shyamkumar pacified the agitating residents by assuring that construction work will begin within May 5 .

MLA Shyamkumar along with EE (PWD), Imphal East Md Rahman, who rushed to the spot assured that the construction of the road would begin within May 5 .

T Joy, president of Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Development Committee, Keirao Bitra said concerned authorities were urged to repair/construct the road since the last 15 years.

The residents had resolved to launch intense agitation if the road is not repaired by April 28 .

He said the roadblock and sit in were taken out as the authority concerned failed to fulfil the demand.

Residents have also aired their annoyance against MLA of Keirao Bitra who allegedly failed to materialise his promise of repairing the road since his success in the last Assembly election.
