Imphal, August 20 2024: Saying that excess water flowing from Loktak Lake has inundated several fish farms and paddy fields at Mayang Imphal, the Apunba Mayang Imphal Lourok Committee (AMILC) has urged the Government to open the shutters of Ithai Dam and Ungamel dam within three days to drain the water.

Speaking to the media at Mayang Imphal Keithel, secretary of AMILC Yumnam Nanao Meitei said that about four thousand pari (Manipuri unit of land measurement) of paddy fields at Mayang Imphal have been flooded.

Saying that water from Loktak Lake is flowing towards Mayang Imphal due to the non opening of Ithai Dam, he added that fishes reared at different fish farms at Mayang Imphal have escaped due to the flood.

Saying that countless fishes have also died as the stagnant water has got polluted, he urged the Government to compensate the farmers who incurred losses within 15 days.

He said that they will launch different forms of agitation if their demands are not entertained.
