Imphal, June 15 2024:
The Imphal Naga Forum (INF) has appealed to the United Naga Council (UNC) to reconsider and remove its ban on MP elect Alfred Kanngam S Arthur and Lok Sabha candidates Kho John and Dr Allyson Abonmai.
In a statement issued today, INF said the appeal was made after a prayer meeting was held in presence of Naga ordained ministers, Pastors, Church and public leaders.
While it prayed for a lasting peace to return to Manipur, the meeting deliberated on burning issues confronting the State, INF said.
The prayer summit took a resolution to make an appeal to the UNC to reconsider, review and retract the resolution it took on May 29 at Chandel, it said.
Notably, the UNC had debarred three Naga leaders, Alfred Kanngam Arthur, Kho John and Dr Allyson Abonmai from holding any public platform, position, leadership and office in Naga society for a period of seven years.
The prayer summit was presided by the convenor of Imphal Naga Forum, Ambition Anth Thangal and the proceeding of the meet was recorded by AS Hongpro Shimray, general secretary, INF while special advisor to the INF, Dr Chance Raman delivered a talk on the agenda of the meet.
Former UNC president G Gaingam, who now heads the UNC Peace Committee as its convenor spoke about "the significance of Article 371(C) of the Constitution which recognizes two administrations for both the hills and the valley in Manipur" and asserted that the people must respect the mandate given to the elected representatives.
The congregation of Pastors, ordained ministers, Christian and public leaders prayed to the Lord for peace to return to the strife torn State of Manipur.
The meet decided to hold a conclave of Naga Church leaders, politicians, public leaders and social activists on July 4 to introspect and discuss the emerging political scenario and worsening crisis in the State in relation to the Nagas in Imphal, said the Imphal Naga Forum.
