State reels under sharp price hike

Prices of essential commodities have soared as the National Highways of the State remain cut off owing to landslide and bridge failure.
A team of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha members along with media persons conducted a survey of retail shops at Imphal Alu Galli to measure price rise on Wednesday.
Potatoes are reportedly sold at Rs 15-16 per kg, onion at Rs 55-65 per kg, sugar at Rs 50 per kg and flour at Rs 45 per kg.
Stating that prices of essential items differ from one retail shop to another, BJYM, Manipur Pradesh president O Malesh appealed to the the retail shops and the market to refrain from causing unnecessary price hike and sell the essential goods at the market rate.
BJYM is set to conduct more surveys in the future to check price hike, the president said.
The party, the president added, if necessary, will further take the matter to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister at Delhi.
