All three Bills are anti-tribal: UNC

Senapati, September 01 2015: Stating that the three Bills passed on August 31 are 'anti-tribal', the United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned it.

"Such bills are only in the interest of a particular community and not in general interest", the UNC said in a statement.

The UNC also condemned the 'barbaric' and merciless killings of several persons and injuring many in Chura-chandpur by Manipur State forces.

Vehemently condemning the act of the State armed forces and 'bias attitude' of the O Ibobi led Congress Government against the tribal people, the apex Naga body stated that this incident has proved that the State Government in connivance with the majority community is totally against the tribals in Manipur.

"It manifests the huge communal divide of Manipur as perpetrated by State Government's role in divide and rule policy," it added.

The UNC said that the present turmoil triggered by 'anti-tribal Government' has proven the fact that the tribals and majority community cannot live together and that, forced union of the two different entities has reaped more division and hatred among the different communities of the State.

The UNC again reiterated that the tribals in Manipur seek "peaceful parting" and 'live as peaceful neighbours' to achieve harmony and peace.

The UNC also directly attacked the irresponsible statement of MLA K Ranjit of Sugnu constituency (former Works Minister) who declared in the Manipur Assembly that, "There are No Nagas in Manipur" .

Such provocative and com-munal statement of an elected member truly endorses the same language of 'valley based civil bodies, MLAs and social leaders' who have been allegedly propounding that civil war and bloodshed among the people is imminent, the UNC said.

The UNC warned that the MLA and the State Govt will be held responsible for any consequence and eventualities due to the statement of the MLA.

Seeking the immediate intervention of the Centre Government into the present law and order situation of Manipur particularly Churachandpur incident, the UNC blamed the State Government for creating the present political and social unrest in the State.

It also noted that, the UNC had submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India on July 29, 2015 on issues of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur demanding protection of tribal rights on its land, identity, history, people, culture and traditional institution.

It mentioned that, the rights of the Tribals cannot be diluted in any form during the arrangement made for particular community at the expense of the tribals.

The UNC will uprightly protect the interest of the tribals at any cost and that, the communal force of the State Government will not be allowed to undermine the people's interest, it added.
