IED detected at Imphal-Churachandpur highway

Imphal, January 23 2013:
Amidst the stepped up security measures ahead of the Republic Day celebration, an IED was detected at a bushy spot along Imphal-Churachandpur highway between Naransena and Sunusiphai.
A source informed that the IED was detected by a patrol party of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles at about 6 am today.
The patrol party included sniffer dogs.
PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement said that the IED was found under a culvert and added that it was detected by a Road Opening Party of the Army.
The entire area was cordoned off and vehicle traffic diverted, before an Army IED team rushed in from Leimakhong destroyed the IED in situ at around 11.30 am without any collateral damage, the release added.

The IED put inside a school bag was found at a bushy spot beside the highway.
Explosive experts of Manipur Police, on receiving information about the IED, rushed to the site and set it off safely in situ .
Before the bomb was set off, people's movement along the highway was blocked from both sides by police and army.
Meanwhile, Imphal East District Police conducted search operations in Checkon and Hatta-Golapati areas this morning.
Altogether 127 suspicious persons were taken to Porompat police station for verification, added the source.
