Imphal, August 08 2010:
A JAC formed in connection with the death of a dozer driver hailing from Bishnupur ward no.11 today resolved not to take back the dead body lying at RIMS morgue until government books the culprit(s) and punishment according to law is delivered.
Dozer driver, Lourembam Tunal alias Rajesh, mention may be made, was found dead at the garage of the house of the owner of the dozer at Khongman in the afternoon of August 2 last.
Controversy arose when his family alleged he was murdered.
In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today, president of JAC formed in connection with the death of the dozer driver, S Tomba recalled that Tunal worked as dozer driver of the contractor Hijam Pakka of Khongman zone-II .
On July 21 last, he went to his work place at Sanakeithel of Ukhrul where he was engaged in road making work.
His dead body was found at the morgue where police had transferred it after registering a case that he had killed himself by hanging.
The dead body of Tunal was already in the morgue before the family was informed of his death.
A cloud of suspicion surfaced when the family of the contractor who were frequently in touch with the family of the deceased driver failed to inform the family first before reporting to the police, he said.
The sequence of the incident shows that he was killed after torture by some people, he pointed out, demanding initiation of appropriate action against the culprit(s) behind the murder.
To unearth the truth behind the death, government should make a judicial inquiry and deliver justice to the family by booking the culprit(s).
Government should also compensate the family of the victim, he demanded.
Until the demands are fulfilled by the government, the dead body will not be accepted by the family for his last rites, he added.
