Imphal, March 04 2020:
The National Council for Teachers' Education (NCTE) has decided to scrap BEd course from DM College of Teachers' Education (DMCTE) due to the failure of the college to adhere to established rules and regulations.
Sources informed that the matter was discussed at the 280th eastern regional committee meeting of NCTE held at Bhubaneswar on February 29 and March 1 and the meeting decided to withdraw BEd course from DMCTE from the 2020-21 academic session.
After the seat capacity of BEd course in DMCTE was slashed from 230 to 150, the 279th meeting of the NCTE eastern regional committee remarked that DMCTE was not qualified to have three units and thus one unit was removed thereby further reducing the BEd course capacity to just 100 seats.
The 280th meeting of the eastern regional committee of NCTE held at Bhubaneswar decided to totally withdraw BEd course from DMCTE from the 2020-21 academic session under Section 17(1) of the NCTE Act 1993.The NCTE decided to scrap BEd course from DMCTE for appointing part-time Lecturers by the institute in contravention of the NCTE Regulations 2014, the sources informed.

Notably, during the recent Assembly session, MLA Surjakumar Okram, in the course of discussing a demand for Education Department, pointed out that the NCTE high-power committee had started minute supervision of all colleges which had facilities for teachers' education.
Further pointing that colleges with no proper physical infrastructure and manpower may be shut down and BEd course may be withdrawn from DMCTE as its capacity has been already reduced from 250 to 150 and then to 100, Surjakumar warned all concerned to take up necessary action promptly.
The Education Minister had also assured that he would look into the matter.
