JD-U to back out of N Biren Govt

Imphal, August 29 2022: As the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) had walked out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre, JD-U State unit has decided to back out of the coalition Government led by Chief Minister N Biren in the State.

Meanwhile, former BJP Manipur Pradesh executive member and spokesman Dr Nimaichand Luwang has joined JD-U together with many of his supporters and they were accorded a warm reception at the party's Hodam Leirak Machin office today.

JD-U State unit president Ksh Biren, legislature wing leader Kh Joykisan, MLA Achab Uddin, former party president Hangkhanpao Taithul, former MLA Dr Kh Loken and former Chief Secretary O Nabakishore attended the reception func- tion, among others.

JD-U to back out of N Biren Govt

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the reception function, Ksh Biren said that JD-U, without waiting for any invitation, submitted a letter of support to the Governor at the Raj Bhavan when the BJP-led Government was formed in the State as the party was a major partner of NDA at that time.

As JD-U had walked out of NDA, the party has severed ties with BJP at the Centre.

Subsequently, JD-U State unit has initiated due process to stop supporting the N Biren-led Government in the State, Ksh Biren said.

The party's National leaders and MLAs are being consulted on how to back out of the N Biren-led Government, he said.

Confiding that he thought of quitting electoral politics after he lost the Assembly election, Ksh Biren said he changed his mind after he convinced himself that it would be right to serve the people for some more time.

"I am holding the post of JD-U State unit president as the party's National and State leaders still believe in me.

As such, I would work relentlessly for the party's development in consultation with the MLAs", Ksh Biren said.

Pointing out that JD-U won six seats in the last State Assembly election, Ksh Biren claimed that the entry of veteran politician Dr Nimaichand Luwang would enhance the party's credibility in the State.

He said that the party would work to field its candidates in the Lok Sabha and local body elections.

In case the party does not put up any candidate in the Lok Sabha election, JD-U would fight the election jointly with the parties which are its allies, he continued.

He claimed that they have started working to form a Government led by JD-U in the State after the general election of 2027 .

The party has already started consulting experts to bring out a vision document towards this end, he said.

Dr Nimaichand said that he has not yet decided whether he should contest the next Assembly election or not even though he has joined JD-U .

"Even though I'm not very keen to contest elections, I'm still inclined to work for the public", Dr Nimaichand said.

India would soon see a great political change and JD-U would be the pioneer of this change, he added.
