Thoubal continues to reel under incessant rainfall

Even as many major rivers now flow close to warning and flood levels following the heavy downpour which the State has been witnessing since the last three days, widespread flood and breaching of a river bank have been reported from Thoubal district.
Bishnupur which was hit yesterday, on the other hand, is slowly returning to normalcy the floodwater has receded.
With Wangjing River overflowing, several residential areas, fish farms and paddy lands at Lamding, Sangaiyumpham and Tentha in Thoubal were inundated, causing widespread destruction.
The local MLA, CSO volunteers and locals have built embankments along the vulnerable banks of Wangjing River to prevent further flooding but the locals of Lamding, Sangaiyumpham, Tentha and other adjacent villages are still apprehensive as they anticipate further downpour.

The level of Thoubal River is also rising rapidly, making the people who reside nearby restless.
It is further reported that water overflowing from Nongdambi River has greatly disrupted mobility at Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai, Mayai Leikai and Awang Leikai.
Many houses and a place of worship of Kairembikhok Ikop Ningthou have also been inundated.
Ingourok River, on the other, got breached at multiple points, thereby wreaking havoc at Nongpok Lourembam in Thoubal.
It is reported that about 20 houses and 50 pari (Manipuri unit of land measurement) have been flooded by the excess water flowing from Ingourok River.
The incessant rainfall has also triggered flood and flood like situation at Tekcham, Khangabok and other villages in Thoubal.
Meanwhile, Nambul River was found flowing at 782.725 metre which is above flood level (782.175 metre) and close to high flood level (783.675 metre) while measuring today at 5 pm at the gauge site at Thong Nambonbi.
When compared to the measurement recorded at 10 am, the water level of Nambul River has dipped by 0.475 metre.
The water level of Imphal River (when measured at the gauge site at Lilong Bridge at 5 pm) was 781.000 metre which is above the warning level (780.350 metre) .
From 10 am to 5 pm : The water level of Imphal River rose by 0.725 metre (at the gauge site at Lilong) .
The water level of Iril River is also rising gradually.
The river flowed at 784.250 metre at 5 pm (at the gauge site at Iril Thongkhong) and the same is 0.350 metre higher than the level recorded at 10 am.
The warning level and flood level of Iril River are 786.700 metre and 787.700 metre respectively.
Nambol River was found flowing 774.200 metre ( measured at the gauge site at Nambol Thongkhong) and the same is only some some metres short of high flood level (774.700 metre) .
The level of Nambol River receded by 0.025 metre between 10 am and 5 pm.
The water level of Thoubal River is also rising rapidly and the river flowed at 779.250 metre (recorded at the gauge site at Thoubal Thongkhong) which is above the warning level pegged at 778.915 metre at 5 pm.
The water level of the river rose by 0.375 metre in between 10 am and 5 pm.
The flood level of Thoubal River is 779.915 metre.
Manipur River, on the other hand, was found flowing at 769.230 metre (at the gauge site at Ithai Barrage gauge site) at 5 pm which is only a few metres short of warning level (769.280 metre).
It is reported that the three gates of Ithai Barrage were partially opened till 5 pm given the rise in the water level of major rivers of the State.
Four gates of Imphal Barrage, on the other hand, have been opened fully while two gates of Thoubal Barrage have been partially opened.
