Docs protest rape and murder of medical student, OPD closed

Joining the Nation-wide protest against the rape and murder of a PG (medical) student who was on duty at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata on August 9, students and doctors of JNIMS, RIMS and member hospitals of the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI)-Manipur Chapter closed OPD today and staged protest demonstrations.
Placards inscribed with the words, "Stop violence against doctors", "We demand justice for victim", "Save doctors", "Let's Unite against any form of violence against doctors", "Justice delayed is justice denied", "Respect the gender" etc were used at the protest demonstrations.

RIMS doctors and students took part in the protest demonstration held in front of RIMS Hospital OPD Block under the aegis of the RIMS Resident Doctors Association.
RIMS Resident Doctors Association senior advisor Dr Sunilkumar Leishang-them decried that the authorities are still unable to arrest all those people involved in the brutal rape and murder of the PG student.
The RG Kar Medical College Principal earlier claimed that the PG student's case was a suicide.
But post mortem revealed that the PG student was raped and strangulated, Dr Sunilkumar said.
He urged the Government to book all the accused at the earliest and demanded delivery of justice as well as compensation to the victim family.
Doctors and students of Dental College, RIMS too staged a sit-in-protest.
Speaking to the media by the sideline of the protest demonstration at JNIMS, JNIMS Students' Association president Dr Laishram Lenin condemned in the strongest terms the rape and murder of a PG student at RG Kar Medical College and urged the authorities concern to award exemplary punishment to all those involved in the brutal crime.
Saying that there is no guarantee such crimes would not take place in Manipur, Dr Lenin urged the Government to take up strong security measures inside JNIMS complex and also to enhance CCTV surveillance.
He said that doctors are being harassed every single day by different sections of the society including patient parties.
He also sought cooperation from the public towards doctors as well as teaching and non-teaching staff of JNIMS.
A similar protest demonstration was held at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute and it was partici- pated by more than 300 MBBS students, faculty members from Shija Academy of Health Sciences and consultants from Shija Hospitals.
Shija Hospital Managing Director and AHPI-Manipur Chapter president Dr Palin Khundongbam also took part in the protest demonstration.
Staff of Shija Urban OPD also staged a sit-in-protest at their Sega Road, Konjeng Hajari Leikai office.
Members of IMA Manipur State branch too staged a protest demonstration at Lamphelpat.
IMA Manipur State branch president Dr Ngangom Arunkumar said that their demands include enactment of a Central law which can effectively protect healthcare workers, making hospitals and healthcare centres safe zones, delivery of justice to the victim family and initiation of strong action against all the accused of the brutal rape and murder case.
Students, faculty members and staff of Churachandpur Medical College also protested at their Kyamgei Covid Hospital campus against the brutal rape and murder of the PG student.
Doctors and nurses of Eastern Eye Foundation and Research Centre too staged a protest demonstration at their centre on the same issue.
The protest was part of a Nation-wide response organised by the Indian Medical Association and the Association of Healthcare Providers of India.
