Imphal, September 02 2019: The 48 hours general strike called by the JAC formed in connection with the mysterious death of Babysana has crippled normal life in the state putting all life to a standstill across the state particularly in valley areas despite police appeal to withdraw it.

The streets wore a deserted look with few private vehicles plying on the road at all districts in valley region.

Police personnel were posted in strategic locations keeping strict vigil not to allow any untoward incident.

State security forces patrol in and around the streets of Thangmeiband area to avoid any unwanted incidents and also to prevent agitators from coming out in the streets to support the 48 hours General Strike.

Educational institutions, banks and all private institutions were shut down during the General Strike.

Khwairamband Keithel, the major business hub of Imphal area witnesses a deserted look.

Shops and other business establishment in both Paona and Thangal market were all shut during the protest even as the district administration has warned serious consequences to bandh supporters.

Even the government run offices witness meager presence of staffs as public transport including auto service, buses and van stay off the road during the General Strike.

People blocked roads by sitting in the middle of the road at Khurai.

Bandh supporters burned effigies of Chief Minister N.Biren and founder of Standard Robarth Ph Landhoni.

At Nongada in Imphal-Ukhrul road large number of bandh supporters blocked road by staging protest in the middle of the road.

Earlier in the morning protestors blocked roads and burnt tyres along the streets of Thangmeiband which were then disrupted by the police.

In Thoubal and Kakching districts bandh supporters came out at the road and stopped all sort of vehicular movement.

Shops and all kind of business establishment have been closed during the General Strike.

In support of the General Strike all commercial transporters, schools and colleges, and the major market place remain closed.

Government offices witness few staffs attending and the bank transaction was put to halt.

A sit-in-protest demanding justice for Babysana was also staged at Kakching Keithel.

The protest was jointly organised by the AMSU Kakching District and Kakching Keithel Apunba Ema Lup.

Meanwhile, in a press statement of JAC signed by Convenor in charge L.Gyaneshwori said that instead of focusing on the investigation by the police to find out the culprit the police are focusing on the JAC members.

She added that the 5 persons which were arrested by the police in connection with the case of Babysana were still not confirmed if they were actually a part of the death of Babysana.

Regarding the statement of CM in the assembly where he assured to push the case to CBI she expressed skepticism to the CM's statement.

Pointing out why the General Strike was imposed she said CM became a mute spectator despite the JACs ultimatum.

Gyaneshwori concluded that Co Convenor L.Pratap was still kept in jail even though his health has deteriorated because of hunger strike protest.
