Truck drivers Chingsubam Ibungo Singh and Longjam Dharmendra Singh who had been abducted by unidentified gunmen have been released by their abductors after nine days in captivity in Dimapur last night.
Transporters however said the suspension of service of goods trucks and 407 mini tatas will continue till the drivers arrive in Imphal.
H Ranjit, president of the Manipur Truck Owners Welfare Association said today that they received the information of the release of the drivers from the Dimapur Meitei Union was informed by the Intelligence (Special Branch) Dimapur DSP SK Sema.
After getting the information, a team led by association general secretary Y Lokeshore who is presently in Dimapur and members of the Meitei Union went to the Dimapur East Police station at around 10.30 last night and brought the two drivers.
The two truckers are presently accommodated in a safe place in Dimapur and they might be reaching the state in a day or two, he added.
Ranjit further said that the suspension of truck and mini tata services in the State the economic blockade imposed on the National Highways is lifted.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Transport Joint Co-ordinating Committee has asked all school buses to acquire service pass from the committee office located at Keishampat Thoubal Parking beforehand, defaulters will be responsible for any untoward incident and buses with service permits are not allowed to carry passengers, the committee said in a statement.
Reacting to appeals made by a student body, the committee said the service held up was necessitated by the diesel shortage.
