On Cheiraoba
Rojio Usham *
Before dark hair changing to grey
that had won neither laurel nor bay?
On this Cheiraoba, let’s say:
Pass away, pass away:
Violence, corruption, and killing
exhausted day by day
Give way to
Chances, justice and beauty:
Let life have a new stay.
Clothe us in Spring
Come to a sticky end
all the burden of fear, and hope;
weigh down labour and play;
drop dead the past and say:
Pass away, pass away:
Violence, corruption, and killing
exhausted day by day
Give way to
Chances, justice and beauty:
Let life have a new stay.
The wicked leaf must decay.
One certain day
A new leaf shall blossom
and shall not delay,
Watch it and say:
Pass away, pass away:
Violence, corruption, and killing
exhausted day by day
Give way to
Chances, justice and beauty:
Let life have a new stay.
