Imphal, February 08 2024: TRAU and FCR (Noney) advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the 14th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament in contrasting styles on Thursday.

TRAU ensured their place in the last 16 with a convincing 2-0 win over WAFA in their encounter at SAI Sports Complex, Imphal.

Despite dominating the proceedings, TRAU failed to make possession in their favour during the first-half exchanges.

After the break, TRAU got their act together and their efforts were finally rewarded when Rk Chiranjan slotted home their opener in the 70th minute.

Then the squad soon doubled their advantage in the 82nd minute with Sovani finding the back of the net to make sure of their pre-quarterfinal berth.

FCR, meanwhile, rode on W Herojit's last-gasp goal to struggle past MPSC 1-0 into the last 16 .

It was a see-saw battle through the 90 minutes of the game until Herojit struck in the decider in the first the final seconds of stoppage to send his side straight to the pre-quarterfinals.
