Commonwealth Games silver-medalist Manipuri boxer Laishram Devendro (49 kg) thrashed Cornelis Kwangu Langu of Indonesia 3-0 on Tuesday storming into the semi-finals in the ongoing Asian Boxing Championships being held in Bangkok assuring himself of a medal and a place in the upcoming World Championships.
It may be mentioned that on August 30 Devendro out-punched Chinese He Junjun 3-0 at quarter-finals bout.
Devendro will square off against top-seeded Uzbek Hasanboy Dusmatov in the semi finals while Tuesday's win assured the boxer of a place in the October World Championships � the first qualifying event for next year's Rio Olympics.
According to reports, Devendro was his usual aggressive self, using his right uppercuts and hooks with precision in all three rounds.
Known to be a tempo boxer, Devendro's aggression wasn't completely no holds barred.
The nimble-footed pugilist used the uppercuts to break Langu's shell guard and did the scoring with hooks and jabs to advance in the Championship.
The 23 year old Laishram Devendro was born on March 2, 1992 to L Jugindro Singh and Laishram ongbi Maklembi Devi of Yurembam Awang Leikai.
Being the youngest of four siblings Devendro at joined the army after completing his matriculation.
He has been since then trained at the Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune from 2003.It has been said that since his childhood, Devendro was inspired to take up boxing by his sister L Shusila Devi, who is also a two times National Boxing Champion.
