ZSYC, CCYC seal semis spots in Cdl 2nd Div football tourney

Imphal, December 05 2023: Ziongtlang SYC and Chandel Christian YC were the first two teams to book semifinal berths in the Chandel Second Division Football Tournament 2023 after their quarterfinal victories at Sports Complex, Chandel on Tuesday.

Ziontlang cruised past Charangching Khunou YC 4-0 for their place in the semifinals.

An own goal in the 9th minute by Charangching gave Ziontlang an early lead but the team struggled to extend their lead in the remaining minutes of the first half.

After the break, Th Roungam found their second goal in the 78th minute as R Chungam tripled the lead a minute later before R Franklyn made it 4-0 in the 87th minute to close out the game.

Chandel Christian, meanwhile, booked their semifinal spot with a 3-2 success against Kotal Khunthak YC.

Chandel Christian took the lead in the 38th minute after the opposition conceded an own goal.

Then Ashok doubled their advantage in the 57th minute before Rucho reduced the deficit for Kotal in the 65th minute.

Chandel Christian got their momentum back in the 71st to restore their two-goal cushion through Shelston, who converted from the penalty spot.

Five minutes later, Kotal narrowed the deficit with a goal from Kophahring but Chandel Christian clung on to secure the win.
