Imphal, February 08 2024:
The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has lauded the decision taken by the Centre to fence the 1643 Km stretch of Indo-Myanmar border and scrap the Free Movement Regime (FRM) between the two countries (India and Myanmar) .
KKL, in a press note, said that fencing the border is indispensable to check the intrusion of illegal immigrants and secure the future of Manipuris.
Urging the Central Government to complete the border fencing work as soon as possible, KKL added that illegal drug cartels operating in the border region will become inactive if FMR is withdrawn.
It also urged the Government to identify and deport the illegal immigrants living in the State.
The Organisation said that the Meiteis could have been in a better position had the initiatives been taken up 30 or 40 years back.
Stating that not an inch of Manipur's territory should be compromised while erecting the border fence, KKL maintained that a comprehensive survey must be carried out from Border Pillar-71 to Border Pillar-89 to make sure the State doesn't lose its territory.
The fence must be erected at par with those along Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh borders, KKL demanded and continued that the responsibility to guard Indo-Myanmar must be entrusted to Border Security Force (BSF) .
