Imphal, October 17 2022:
TA & Hills Minister Letpao Haokip has suggested the introduction of a land holding system under TA.
The Minister made the statement during the 2nd anniversary celebration of the Government's official recognition of 'Kuki Rising' and its inclusion in the list of State restricted holidays on October 17 of 2020 .
The event was organised by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and held at Kuki Rising Park of Aisan village in Saikul sub-division of Kangpokpi district.
The event was attended by TA & Hills Minister Letpao Haokip as the chief guest; MLA of Singhat Chinlunthang Manlun as the functional president and Letmajang Haokip, Singnat MLA and Kimneo Hangsing, Saikul MLA as the guests of honour.
Speaking as the chief guest, Letpao Haokip stated that people popularly know the rebellion of Kuki people against the British as 'Anglo-Kuki War'.
However in British encyclopaedia, this is referred to as "Kuki Rising" .
In view of this fact, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had officially recognised the uprising as "Kuki Rising", he said.
Aside from this, the Chief Minister declared it as a restricted holiday and assured the construction of a Kuki Rising Memorial Park, he maintained.
The TA & Hills Minister lauded the Chief Minister N Biren Singh led Government for this official recognition adding that past administrations had not taken the initiative in this regard.
He also called for the introduction of a land holding system in which a surveyor under Tribal Affairs (TA) will issue 'pattas' to land owners in their respective districts.
This will alleviate a lot of problems arising out of land ownership, he stated.
He further announced that the Government will not officially recognise those villages with less than 50 households from this day onwards.
Speaking on the occasion, Khaimang Chongloi, president, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) expressed joy at the acknowledgement of the Kuki people's rebellion against the British from 1917 to 1919 as 'Kuki Rising' and its inclusion in the list of restricted holidays.
He also exuded confidence that the Government will fulfil its promise of setting up a Kuki Rising Memorial Park in the Greater Imphal area.
