Imphal, September 26 2023:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has condemned both the Kuki militants and the State Government over the purported killing of two Meetei students who went missing in July.
Addressing the media at Lamphelpat today, COCOMI coordinator Jee-tendra Ningomba said that killing innocent and helpless people after keeping them in captivity is be the most horrible and inhumane crime if the viral photos of the two Meetei students are proven true.
Notably, two pictures of the two students, Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam of Tera Tongbram Leikai and Phijam Hemanjit Singh of Takyel Kolom Leikai have surfaced on social media after restoration of mobile data services.
In one of the pictures, the two students are seen lying next to one another, possibly after being killed by the Kuki militants.
It would be cowardice and inhumane on the part of the Kuki militants and their associates if the two students were indeed killed as appeared in the photo, he said and added that the Government is partly at fault for their inability to rescue the two students.
The entire country including the Prime Minister and every community in Manipur reacted sharply when two Kuki women were paraded naked by a mob on May 4, he recalled and added that the Meeteis also didn't protect the people who were involved in shaming the two Kuki women publicly.
Unfortunately, the Prime Minister hasn't said a word about the disappearance of the two Meetei students whose bodies couldn't be traced till now, he said.
He urged the Government to arrest all the people involved in the killing of the two students and retrieve their bodies at the earliest.
Asking what the Government has been doing amid the violent conflict in Manipur especially in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Moreh, Jeetendra questioned if laws are applicable only in the valley district.
He went to ask if the Government has taken any action against the Kuki militants for all the hostility they have done against the Meeteis.
Jeetendra, on the other hand, said that the excesses of State police in controlling the students who protested against the purported killing of two Meeteis students is condemnable.
