UNC visits Ukhrul in second leg of Naga areas tour

The second leg of the United Naga Council (UNC) political tour in Naga areas was undertaken in Ukhrul district in association with the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and the respective zonal organisations of the region from April 16 to 19 .
In a press release issued by its Publicity Wing, UNC said that the political tour was carried out mainly with a view to study the socio-economic conditions of the Nagas which is weakening day by day and to verify the tall claims made by the Government of Manipur on schemes/projects during tripartite talks as development initiatives taken up by them in tribal areas.
Interactions were held with village elders and public leaders of the visited areas, the press release said and added that the common refrain was the loss of hope for a future with dignity on all fronts under the Government of Manipur.
The tour programme concluded with a joint meeting under the aegis of the Tangkhul Naga Long at the Long (TNL) Hall, which was participated by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long and the Chairmen and Chairmen/officials of the Longphangs, members of the Senior Citizens Forum, former Presidents of the TNL, church leaders and social leaders, the press release added.
The contours of the tripartite talk process on the demand for an alternative arrangement outside the Government of Manipur was highlighted in the joint meeting which also emphasised on the need to be organised and be in continued preparedness for taking forward the people's movement to its logical conclusion.
The high point of the joint meeting was the reaffirmation of the fullest support for the political aspiration of the Naga people, the press release added.
It further said that the the entire tour programme was hosted by the Tangkhul Naga Long.
