Athouba to address UNHRC

Imphal, March 15 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba would address the ongoing 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) .
The UNHRC is the international apex body that addresses and resolves issues related to human rights violations worldwide including social, cultural and economic issues and issues related to indigenous peoples.
The 55th session of the UNHRC began on February 26 and will conclude on April 5, 2024 .
Khuraijam Athouba will be representing the voices of the indigenous peoples from the North East region of India, specifically Manipur State, according to a press release issued by COCOMI media coordinator Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman.
He would participate in the session and present interventions at important debates.
Additionally, he is set to attend meetings with dignitaries from some of the UNHRC's member States and international organisations, it said.
Khuraijam Athouba also represents an international organisation which has ECOSOC special consultative status with the United Nations.
"The COCOMI and the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) of Kangleipak, Manipur have appointed him to raise the voice of the people of Manipur and to create awareness about the human rights violations occuring in the State of Manipur with the hope that the international community will stand by us to bring peace and stability to the region", it added.
