CM reviews poppy destruction strategies

Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a review meeting on measures and renewed strategies to tackle illegal poppy cultivation in hill districts, today.
The meeting held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat was attended by the Chief Secretary, top officials of State police, Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB), Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB), Forest Department, Manipur Remote Sensing Application Centre (MARSAC) and Forensic Science.
During the meeting, the attendees held a discussion to stop poppy cultivation by presenting a slideshow of images and videos of poppy plantations collected through Google satellite mapping and geo-tagging.
Reportedly, the Chief Minister directed SPs of different hill districts and Forest officials who attended the meeting to carry out destruction drives of poppy plantations before the harvesting season.
In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister wrote, "Chaired a meeting to deliberate on the measures and renewed strategies to tackle illegal poppy cultivation in Manipur at my Secretariat.
"The meeting was joined by the Chief Secretary, Manipur Police Department, NCB, NAB, Forest Department, MARSAC and Forensic Science.
"The State Government's unwavering commitment to completely uproot the drug menace and curb poppy plantation remains firm" .
