Banana processing training programme launched

Churachandpur district administration in collaboration with Khankho-Lom Producers Civil Society Limited, Churachandpur organised 'Banana Processing Training Programme' for inmates of B Vengnom community hall relief camp on Tuesday with deputy commissioner Dharun Kumar launching the programme.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Dharun Kumar informed that the district administration had taken various initiatives for welfare of the inmates of relief camps.
The district administration had been arranging basic food items and skill training for livelihood and empowerment of the inmates, he said while also expressing his appreciation towards the step taken by the Khankho-lom Producers Civil Society (C.S) Ltd for the beautiful products displayed during the function.
With focus on self-reliance and support to facilitate creation of unique self-support to increase their economy, the training will help create awareness about products from banana fibre when the inmates leave the camp, he added.
Further, Dharun appealed the gathering to come forward and present any ideas and suggestions which would help boost sustainable development of livelihood of the inmates.
While pointing out that a time may come for the displaced people to leave the camps and the government might not be able to provide relief supply, Nodal Officer (Relief Camps) Mannuamching advised the inmates to prepare and seek any work which can give them sustainable livelihood.
She also encouraged the inmates to participate in the skill training for self-reliance and prepare for sustainability in future.
In his address, ADM Thangboi Gangte thanked the civil societies and NGOs for partnering with the district administration to provide training and activities for Internal Displaced Persons (IDP).
He further said that the district administration has taken various initiatives regarding the welfare of the Internally Displaced Persons, adding that the primary focus is skilling the inmates during their stay in or out of camps.
Khankho-Lom producers CS Ltd consultant Seikhongam Touthang also highlighted the processes of extracting banana fibre and its importance.
As part of the programme attended by Churachandpur SP and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) from various camps around Tuibuong area, products made from Banana Fibre such as door mates, baskets, bags, etc., were displayed.
