Imphal, November 19 2023:
The last rites of Khwairakpam Ningol Laichombam Ongbi Abemcha Devi was held at her village at Kangchup Chingkhong today.
Abemcha was hit by a bullet and injured when Kuki militants opened fire indiscriminately at Kangchup Chingkhong on November 7 .
She succumbed to her injuries on November 16 at RIMS' Intensive Care Unit.
She hailed from Kangchup Chingkhong and was the wife of L Tondon of Kangchup Chingkhong.
Abemcha is survived by her husband, a 17-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son.
Her family and members of Joint Action Committee, formed in connection with her death, claimed her body from RIMS mortuary after conducting post-mortem today.
The JAC and the family had agreed to claim the body after an agreement was reached with the State Government on November 17 .
The JAC's co-convenor, N Bobby said the Government has agreed to drive away the armed Kuki men and militants from the foothills and hilltops in the fringes of Lamsang and Sekmai areas and deploy additional security forces in the areas.
Further, the Government has agreed to give fair compensation and a Government job to the next of kin of the deceased, he said.
A procession carrying the mortal remains of Abemcha was taken out from RIMS to her village today.
People came out on the roadsides and paid floral tributes.
