Imphal, December 05 2023:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has applauded the State Government's approval of the proposal for enactment of The Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in High School Leaving Certificate Examination and Higher Secondary Examination at yesterday's Cabinet meeting.
The student union has consistently made concerted efforts to eliminate question leaks, impersonation, using unfair means, mark tampering, teachers indulging in unlawful practices etc during the Class X and XII examinations, said a press release issued by Thoudam Shyamjai, secretary publicity & propaganda, DESAM HO.
However, due to the absence of a suitable examination penal law, the offenders usually escaped without any punishment, continued DESAM.
Thus, DESAM had approached the relevant Government department, Education Minister, Chief Minister and subsequently the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) to enact such a penal law for Class X and XII malpractice cases.
Agreeing with DESAM's concerns, the then Acting Chairman of MHRC advocate Khaidem Mani had issued an order instructing the State Government to enact a suitable examination penal law on March 11, 2021, said the statement.
Lastly, DESAM has appealed for implementation of the penal law across the State before Class X and XII examination 2024 to curb malpractices in these upcoming exams.
