IFPCL processing, turmeric collection units inaugurated

Along with a processing unit of Ijeirong Farmers' Producer Company Limited (IFPCL), a collection and aggregation unit of organic turmeric was inaugurated at Ijeirong village in Noney district on Wednesday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Noney deputy commissioner Joseph Pauline Kamson and Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Tamenglong & Noney district officer Chungong Pamei and IFPCL CEO Merachao Inka as presidium members.
The processing unit includes dryer, polishing and powdering houses, washing room, etc.
Speaking at the event, MLA Janghemlung Panmei expressed elation on significant improvement made in the production of indigenous organic products in his home constituency and encouraged the farmers to never give up till they achieve their goals and realise their visions.
Funds will be provided by the government if farmers work sincerely to generate sustainable income for rural prosperity, he assured, while announcing that a packaging house for the benefit of turmeric farmers would be constructed at Ijeirong village under MIDH.
Noney DC Joseph Pauline also commended the Ijeirong Farmers' Producer Company Ltd as a role model for all the farmers along with highlighting the importance of production, processing and marketing with value addition to meet the rising demand of organic products.
As a part of the programme, Ijeirong organic Curcu-Turmeric powder was launched by the dignitaries and special awards for farmers who produce turmeric in bulk and good quality handed over.
Ihe awardees included Thuigwang Inka who produced 1.7 Kg, Thomson Bariamtak (1.5 kg) and Joshua Bariamtak (1.4 kg) weighed in single rhizomes bundle of turmeric respectively.
It may be mentioned here that the Collection & Aggregation Unit was constructed under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) at a project cost of Rs 10 lakh by the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur.
The MLA and his team also visited Paangkriang Friendship Academy, Ijeirong where he assured the school authority of looking into the demand for construction of school building for Nursery to class 1 .
