Manipuri artistes receive pensions, medical aid

Imphal, February 08 2024:
Five Manipuri artistes have received pensions and medical aid for the year 2022-23 from the Union Ministry of Culture under the latter's Scheme for Financial Assistance for Veteran Artistes which provides financial assistance to artistes, aged 60 years & above.
The Assistance is provided to artistes having annual income not exceeding Rs 72,000, and who have contributed significantly in their specialised fields of performing arts and culture, but are facing financial distress due to ageing.
Under the scheme, financial assistance up to Rs 6000 per month is given to the selected artistes.
The applicant should either be a recipient of artistes pension of at least Rs 500 per month from the state government/ UT administration concerned, or the artistic credentials of the applicant should be verified and recommended to the Union Ministry by Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCC) .

Under the scheme, Rs 3.08 lakh was sanctioned for 13 artistes of the state in 2019-20, Rs 3.36 lakh for nine artistes in 2020-21, Rs 7.84 lakh for 16 artistes in 2021-22 and Rs 60,000 for five artistes in 2022-23 .
