MEELAL, BoSEM join hands to promote Meetei Mayek

To promote Meetei Mayek, the Board of Education Manipur (BoSEM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) to give a cash award of Rs 10,000 to the topper(s) of Meetei Mayek subject in the board exam.
MEELAL has deposited a sum of Rs 1 lakh to BoSEM for the initiative.
The MoU was signed in the presence of BoSEM Chairman, Associate Professor Akham Joykumar Singh; Secretary Dr S Mangijao Singh; MEELAL president Khaidem Ingocha, secretary L Nongmailembi Leima and advisor N Tomba at Babupura among others.
The award will be christened "Meeyamgi Luchingpurel Oja Chingsubam Akaba Manipuri (Meitei Mayek) Ningshing Mana" and it will be given from this year onwards.
This year, the award will be given to Christina Nongthongbam, d/o N Ibosana Singh and N Mala Devi of Sabantongba Mamang Leikai.
Christina, a student of Nawa Sindam Sang, Thoubal secured a solid 100 out of 100 in the Meitei Mayek paper of 2023 HSLC (Class X) examination.
At the function, Khaidem Ingocha (MEELAL president) said that Meetei Mayek is now taught at higher classes too and it is a matter of pride for those who love the script.
He continued that the BoSEM will give the cash award every year and MEELAL has deposited Rs 1 lakh for the initiative.
A Joykumar, on the other hand, said that they decided to introduce the award after threadbare deliberation with MEELAL executives.
Advocating the promotion of other local languages too, the BoSEM Chairman said that the initiative of MEELAL has paved a way forward to promote other subjects and languages.
